Enrollment Currently Closed The Academy is offering this voluntary basic, introductory math skill-building program to all County employees as a tool to aid in developing or refreshing math skills. The content of the two math courses includes Mathematics 1, a review of the four basic arithmetical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and then covers Approximation, Order of Operations, Fractions, Decimals and Ratios and Percentages. This course also teaches techniques for time management, strategies for successful test-taking, and approaches to overcoming math anxiety. Mathematics 2 covers Probability and Averages, Graphs and Charts, Introduction to Geometry, Negative Numbers and Introduction to Algebra. Each employee will have a opportunity to (1) select enrollment in the Math 1 class and not be required to take a placement test or (2) take a placement test that will establish whether the student is ready to begin with Math 1 or Math 2. The placement test will cover basic arithmetic operations, approximation, fractions, decimals, ratios and percentages. Participants enrolled in Math 1 will be given a diagnostic test at the beginning of class to determine whether they have mastered the basic arithmetic operations. If not, students will be provided a thorough review in the text book. |
