The Workplace English program is designed to provide vocational language skill proficiencies for employees who speak English as a Second Language. The purpose of the training is to strengthen language skill proficiencies to enable employees to demonstrate the listening, speaking, and writing skill proficiencies necessary to succeed in business, customer service, and office settings. Who can participate? County employees (both permanent and temporary) who speak English as a Second Language and would like to enhance their communication skill proficiencies are invited to apply. Employees must be performing competently or better in order to be accepted for the course. How often do I attend Class? You will be scheduled to attend two 3-hour classes per week for a total of 144 hours (6 months). How much will it cost me? There is no cost to the participant for registration, textbooks, or materials. The cost to departments will be to allow employees to attend the training during work hours. This program is sponsored by Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 721 Joint Labor-Management committee. Program Information This is a competency-based program. The module focuses on the critical soft skills that will enable employees to communicate more effectively in a diverse workplace.
