The Legal Environment, Employee Relations, and Discipline Program is intended to develop the technical skills important to compete for future human resources technical positions. The course will incorporate theory, current laws, and practices with County administrative policies and procedures. Development of the skills taught in this course will help candidates play an integral part in implementing the County’s evolving strategic plan.
This course will consist of classroom instruction, homework assignments, tests, and one Saturday class.
The following is an outline of the curriculum covered in the course:
These courses are customized specifically for the County and are based on a structured needs assessment process. University professors will join County experts in teaching these classes.
You are eligible to apply for this course if you:
All eligible applicants are required to take a prerequisite test to assess each candidate’s preparedness to meet university and program requirements. A list of qualified applicants will be given to each department head, who will determine the order in which applicants will attend based on job performance, the number of training slots allocated, location of training sessions and the needs of the Department.
Employees in positions such as Administrative Assistant I or Staff Assistant I may also apply; this program is an additional opportunity to develop fundamental skills necessary to advance your career.
Classes will be held one-day per week in the late afternoon over an 8 to 10-week period. To enhance accessibility for participants, sessions will be held at various California State University campuses. Course work and assignments will be partly on County time and partly on your own time. Program costs will be financed through the Los Angeles County Learning Academy.
Participants who successfully complete this course will be awarded a Certificate of Completion by the California State University System, and may be eligible for continuing education units.
